Makali ….you are jealous because my music rocks

Bwana Makali,

I know you will be surprised to find out that I dished

you out in a public forum, but I can no longer hold my disappointment, and if I didn't spell out to you Wayoga chapter 5 on the cyberspace where everybody can read it, registering my disappointment in the manner you utter and spew ignorance which could affect a diversified country  like ours and the rest of the civilized World.  If I refrain from dishing you, I would  be doing injustice to my constitutional rights. I can now look down on your academic prowess which i have for many years admired b4 you called my  music which is not only my philosophy, intelligence, living hood and the only way I exercise my freedom of expression  crap coming to Nairobi from New York which you are planning to deface off the Kenyan airwaves in a months time.

But above all, just because you "moonlighting" from your day time responsibilities at the standard to produce a  musical program on Metro FM, what makes you think you have the authority to deface hip hop music which is the world's greatest civilization off the Kenyan airwaves? Are you the Kenyan FCC? I was thinking you are well read and may use your position and expertise. As an editor of East Africa's  greatest paper (The Standard) and the director of Media Institute, you need to display reasonable professionalism.

After a few "private" tête-à-têtes with you, I find  your reasoning if NOT the way you think less than a  goat herder in the village. It is very dangerous for our civilization especially in  a developing country like ours which relies on the intelligence of elite  of  your caliber to steer your readership thro which you  command on a daily basis. Your judgment must always depend on what your readership and the people who listens to your program on Metro M says. Not what you say.

What makes you think my music is importation  of crap from NewYork?. Have you done your homework as  to why hip hop is the greatest civilization that ever  occurred? Have you bothered to find out why it is  beyond being controlled and defaced in probably a months time as you are suggesting? Why do you think a rapper called "Jadakiss" telling Bush why he knocked down the twin towers and Bush hasn't said a word having known Bush as ruthless? I have a parody of Bush on my website and no secret service ever questioned my intention. That is because I live in the free world. Why do you think rappers curse and the FCC is mum about it other than a few dummies who think it is crap? Why do you think such words do exist? They are just words.

While I agree that you are as old fashioned as a sphinx, and hip hop is may be just some noise to you, you must know that to the younger people it is deep. I don't agree that you are still that less  informed as to why hip hop has  evolved into a very powerful tool of expression and a coveted lifestyle all over the world.

Hip hop surpasses even  reggae and religion as a movement with a fanatic follow-up. It is the only way we black folks can express ourselves freely without being muzzled or say what we want to say to the whole world without being oppressed. It is the way we express our anger on things which are frustratingly unsolved... hip hop is revolutionary (check how NARC become a party of the people and what did Gidi Gidi get off it) Nothing.

If you are anti-hip hop, you are anti- black, if you hate hip hop you hate change, if you  despise hip hop, you are anti-neo-soul  which is black spirituality and authoritative movement.

As a journalist you must have done research as to why hip hop descended in Nairobi? what makes it so spiritual? Why do you think younger people vibe it?

I know you are old fashioned because you don't understand the hip  hop language, and you don't have to. Keep your thoughts about it. But don't frustrate it.  You must know that  generation after generation have their own  civilization, and this here is 2004 as opposed to the  50's probably when you were born. Just because you are a generation of Baby Boomers, it  doesn't mean you are going to shove down the throats of generation X and the dot com Kenyans what you grew up knowing as perfect or imperfect. You can't judge the masses. Because vox populi vox del.

It is a new world which people like you can't fit in and so you feel frustrated. But you can't control it. You are NOT going to play bengas and mugithis on an FM radio like Metro and expect the younger Kenyans to vibe your program.. forget it. Do that with vernacular Radio stations, and your type is in the rural Kenya NOT Nairobi. Teenies are not feeling that shit.

You must know we are in a dot com era, and even things of two years ago are aging out  a lot faster because of quick inventions. The world is on toes. This is a fast paced environment in which we live.  Also, as an individual you are not going to gag an  idea whose time has come to fit your own liking. Just because you don't like it, Hip Hop is civilization of a new generation of the entire world not only Nairobi and you don't need to be tacky about it like every kid in Kenya is your child. If you don't feel it, stay the fac out of the airwaves because you definitely have no audience  who will vibe your music of the 70's. In other words style up.

Even my grandpa who grew up in the 40's never expected me  to remove my six lower teeth because it made  some jang'os pretty back then. Just like I don' expect my grandpa to have a dragon tattoo on his penis ... it doesn't mean a thing to him.. nor does it make him look sexy. We are a separation of a generational gap. My grandma was hijacked into marriage as opposed to chips munching manzis of today... back then it was machoness, today it would be kidnapping and serial rape. Therefore, why do  older folks want the younger people to act like they were?  How long ago is that?

Cos I'm a dot com generation, I live in a digital  world, I vibe hip hop, I play video games, I chat on  the cyberspace, I talk on cell-phone, I bling bling and I drive 24's...that is not even something of the  80's. However, my grandpa always wanted me to do things the way they did when they were growing up, and you Dave sound like a grandpa whose lifestyle no longer meet my priorities.

Why then do older people wanna shove down things of their generation down the throats of a new generation, yet it is not going to work? They know it but they fuss about it like it is going to work. Why don't the older folks shut the fac up and reflect their past lives  in peace?

You  must know that every generation have their lifestyle and things they value most. In my generation, my kind of music doesn't make sense to you, just like yours doesn't penetrate me..

The problem we have is that gumbarus like you are still the ones calling the shots  which you don't know what it  is all about? Why in the rats ass would a guy like you  become a musical program producer on an FM station like Metro in the world’s TOP city like Nairobi? How are you going to digest Wayoga's pulsating 8o8 crank rock? Isn't this what drives you nuts? It is not your kind of thing we want to get rid of people like you? Even in the government how are we going to progress if we are still being ruled by gumbarus who don't know the pace of the digital era? Neither do they know at what speed the new world spins?

It is a way in which we have used to stalled our progress in a country like Kenya and until these gumbarus are removed we are in trouble. That is why the country is fuck'd-up, we can not progress because our leaders who are suppose to be calling the shots  are old fashioned whose mindset is stone age.  How are we going to progress in the dot com era if our leaders are  tribe this, tribe that? This is NOT what the new generation of Kenyans are into.. you can just see    that in the way they socialize. Therefore, until the tribal minded gumbarus die out.. we are stars away from civilization. How can a country thrive if those who are running it are thinking in terms of shambas and cows? That is not only very old but very sad, we are in big trouble we won't get out   of this shit anytime soon.

If things from New York are crap (for example my music) then from now on I don't want you to call  yourself David, that is a mzungu name you don’t need it, it is that very same crap from the west.

You must go to your house and throw out TVs, DVDs, VCRs, and all kind of electronics you have in there because those are craps from New York. You must throw out everything of luxury you  have in your house.. get out of it and go live in a mud sack in the village where you cook with fire wood  because the life you live in Nairobi is a bunch of  crap  from the west and you don't need to wade in that filth. You must from now on get you a big ass punda to ride to the local market  and don't look at  automobiles. You need to quit your job too and go back to the village as opposed to working in a modern air conditioned building like I&M because all these are craps from the West.

Before, you dismiss my music as crap from the west, because I rap in English, you don't need to address me  in English, nor edit an English paper while wearing reading glasses, dressed in a designer jacket, talking on telephone, using computer while munching chewing gum because all this are the  real crap a guy like you don't need in Kenya.

I realized you want Kenya which doesn't accept filth like my music, why don' you shed off western things, and dress your ass in stinking cow skin, take bath in the river? Yeah dunk a shit in the grass and brush your teeth with a stick you picked from a tree and stay away from flossing and toothpaste?. Because according to you all these are crap from New York like Wayoga's music which " hip hop" which needs to be defaced off the Kenyan airwaves.

Mr. Makali, I reckon, you hold a position of an editor in a newspaper with a wide circulation, which the people of the good county of Kenya reads and digest but the way you reason, if you are just NOT jealous of my music because it rocks,  I can't understand if you are acting out of jealousy, ignorance, or whacha ma callit?  Block me from entertaining my people? The can you explain to me that  you are intelligent enough to know what global values are in 2004.      Because Nairobi and New York are now a global village. Nothing happens in New York which Nairobians don't know.

Hp hop which I crank is a culture which has evolutionized lifestyle more than anything else in the world. From New York  to Jo'Berg to Nairobi to Tokyo to Sidney to as far as Sao Paulo ...It is now a small world. You can't stop hip hop cos it is the proverbial  idea whose time has come an whether you like it or hate it, it rocks..

You should also know that while  hip hop rocks, hip hop artist especially in the USA are the wealthiest people on earth..if nobody pirates hip hop it is a pot of gold. Here in the dirty south where I live, hip hop artists are wealthier than president of the United States.

I can see why you ar acting jilted of me... because this po boy from mamaland is talented in cranking hip hop and that is like striking a gold mine.  I don't expect that I'm a prophet who will be accepted  in his home town. STOP being a playa hater!

Also you should know that if your era is gumbaru as opposed to dot com, and if your taste of music is  different as opposed to the taste  of the new generation  of Kenyans, you have no right to make a  decision on behalf of 36 million Kenyans just because you can.

The fact that you have privilege over the print media and a quarter airwaves at KBC Metro, you can NOT deface  any music off the airwaves as you are suggesting. You don't have authority over the airwaves in Kenya. Nobody in Kenya have such authority  over our airwaves. However, you can frustrate it  because you are on the ground to wind your way thro and because you are producing some program on Metro FM, you have no  such authority... Metro FM is a public property and don't use it as if you own it.

Only Kenyans who listens to my music have the authority to vote it out.. Not individual.. even if 6 million  Kenyans today said they don't like my gig.. there is still 30 million who have not spoken.

Suggesting from your own perspective that my music is crap b4 36 million Kenyans say so is the real crap. I know very talented boys from Dandora and the rest of Nairobi who are very talented and because people like you have the control of the airwaves in Nairobi,  these friends of mine are locked out. I cry for them because they are poor and have no red tape to have their music played... 'mbetter off because my music is the mouth of the south on Radios and popular clubs.

Don't ever say hip hop is crap because you don't know this shit...your suggestion is a sign of dictatorship and we are way far from being dictated to how we can live our lives.  Just one man (david makali and your likes) have no  right to dictate to Kenyans how they should live their lives, what kind of music, food, clothes, sexual preferences, speech, expression, etc.

It will be a violation of our constitutional rights.

Finally if you'r jealous of me as evident with my people if there is a brotha doing well the crabs wanna bring him down, I have a bad news for you.. Nigga you don't know me. You are not of my equal footing: Bring it on...

If you wanna compare the notes, just say which ones, academics?  I’m probably the most educated rapper you know. Prestigious US Academies, Ivy leagues. But do I need to dangle all that? It will  choke you of resentment. I'm a simple Kenyan, I am out here to work  hard, I act cool,  vibe with my Kenyan on Cyberspace everyday we are all Kenyans equally  poor people until everybody in Kenya can afford a better living conditions and healthcare. That is my cry. Otherwise sijibebi, I'm ordinary and human-but you  flip my other side... I'm the bolla in the entire south.. My game is tight. I bling...Americans kids wants to grow up and be like me..

I ride in(24's only) My hang outs are tight. Need I disclose everything to you?

If you don't like my music, Kenya is a country of 36 million and I bet

you are NOT speaking on their behalf..  Kenyans  love me, my music and I love them too.  Over here in the far away land  the people  in America, Canada, Europe, and Asia.. love my music  therefore, niggas like you are the ones putting Kenya down.. and you don't need to use your position to frustrate others just because you can.

Shame, shame, and more shame on you....yeah!
